Augmentative/Persuasive Essay - Computers Run Our Lives

This is the outline for a long essay that I wrote and It came out to about six pages.

Augmentative/Persuasive Essay - Computers Run Our Lives

I)             Introductory Paragraph
a.    Ever since the first computer began being distributed throughout homes around the world, we have started becoming far too reliant on them. We use them every day from transportation to the cell phones that we love so much and computers are beginning to take over our lives.
II)            Transportation
a.    We use many forms of transportation every day. All of the cars, trucks, vans, buses and other forms of transportation that we all use every day to take us where we want to go are a great use of computerized power. They all run of technological advanced systems, so more than others, that is a great example of what technology can do for us. On the other hand what would we do without these? We would be lost and have no way of traveling.
III)           Military Computers
a.    The Military has many old and new forms of computers at their disposal. They can range from the equipment  and weapons that they use to their means of transportation.
IV)          School
a.    Classes Online: Online classes are a very popular way to take classes rather someone is trying to find a way to take classes that will work around their job schedule, or they simply would like to be able to attend classes form the comfort of their own homes this would be the choice way to do so.
b.    Grades Posted Online: Anyone who attends a college will have to look up their grades online to find out what their grades are.
c.    Homework Online: Doing homework online is a fairly new way of doing homework, not in an online class. This is a replacement for the traditional way of turning in homework where a student would write the answers down on a piece of paper and turn it in directly to a teacher. Instead, the homework is done and submitted through an internet linked homework program.
d.    Used in Schools: Due to computers being placed in classrooms everywhere, students become distracted from paying attention to what is being taught and instead are secretly using their computer to browse the internet or Facebook chat with each other.
V)           Pornography
a.    Easy Access: Since the internet is so easy to access form anywhere we go, either through a computer or a cell phone, the easy access to pornographic material is greater than ever.
VI)          Banks/Banking
a.    ATMs: An ATM can be used to get money from a banking account very quickly and easily.
b.    Credit Cards: Credit cards can be a very easy to make purchases either at a store or online.
c.    I.D. Can Be Stolen: Millions of people have their identity stolen every year due to the use of credit card machines, ATMS, and many other banking transactions. While these computer systems can be convenient, the risk of using these computerized programs may not be worth the risk.
VII)        Computerized Shopping
a.    Online shopping: Anything can be bought somewhere online. Whatever we feel the need to possess, we can find available to purchase somewhere through the use of the internet. By the time you pay the more expensive price that usually comes with online shopping and the shipping cost, a lot of extra money could be spent.
b.    Amazon and Ebay: These are two very convenient websites that anyone who creates an account on their website can have the freedom to purchase cheap items from them. Since these websites are so convenient and so many people are now using these, local businesses are losing shoppers to these websites.
VIII)       Social Media
a.    People no longer have to meet face to face in order to socialize.
b.    Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter: These are three of the most popular and most recognizable socializing websites there is. Due to the convenience these sites provide into seeing what your friends are doing and chatting with them, these sites have caused us to become too dependent upon them.
c.    Online gaming: Online gaming is becoming more popular then no online gaming due to the fact that anyone with the prober gaming system can play with people from around the world without leaving their homes. They can also chat with the other players if they own a headphone. Since they no longer need to get one of their friends to come over so that they can play a game in multiplayer, the need for in person interaction is then eliminated.
d.    Online Dating: Online dating is something used by lonely people that wish to chat with other singles and have somewhat of a sense of companionship. While there has been individuals that have met the person they are now married to.
IX)          Time Could Be Better Spent
a.    Work: People spend too much time using their phones or Facebooking on any available computer that they can locate, instead of putting their full effort into their job.
b.    Socializing: Socializing in person with people is always better than chatting over the internet with people who we have never met before.
c.    Playing Games With Family: Playing board games with the family is a great way to bond and spend time together. Nothing beats having fun and laughing like crazy with the family.
d.    Improving Skills: Spend some time away from the computer and improve skills or take up a hobby.
X)           Conclusion
a.    In a world that is basically run by computers, we are becoming more and more dependent on the use of computers for even the simplest tasks.  Eventually we may become so dependent on them that we no longer feel the need for human interaction at all. They have caused our society to become lazier.
